2011 Blood Drive Schedule

There is no substitute for human blood.  I can't help but laugh a little every time I say this to someone, because it sounds so macabre—but it's not.  Life is a miracle, and the lifeblood that flows through all of us is, too.  It's a substance Science has not been able to replicate or manufacture, so we simply have to share.  At Mission Regional Medical Center, we have a constant need for the stuff!  We need blood for elective procedures and emergency surgeries; we need blood to pull patients through all sorts of illnesses and to treat many diseases. For this reason, I have been a blood donor since my 18^th birthday, and I give every two months, even now. 

There are lots of health benefits for me as a donor, as well as the good feeling I get knowing every donation can save up to THREE lives!  For men, the benefits of giving blood may be even greater, as studies have shown that men who donate on a regular basis have a lower risk of heart disease—the number one cause of death in males.  Additionally, MRMC rewards donors with a FREE meal and a FREE Cinemark movie pass, as a small token of our appreciation. Donors who sign up for the “Hero” rewards program through United Blood Services, receive points for every donation and perks that may be redeemed online, too.
