(Mission, TX) The Foundation at Mission Regional Medical Center is pleased to announce artist, activist and cancer-survivor Christine Baze will be the keynote speaker at the 3rd Annual ‘Ladies First’ Luncheon. The topic of this year’s event is cervical cancer and the human papilloma virus, or HPV, one of the known causes of cervical cancer.
“According to the US Centers for Disease Control, more than 80% of American women will be infected with HPV over their lifetimes,” explained Marianna Treviño Wright, Director of The Foundation. “As shocking as this statistic is, we now have a vaccine against HPV that could dramatically reduce the incidence of infection and the occurrence of cervical cancer. This is great news—news we want to use to save lives!”
“Christine is an amazing young woman,” states Yvonne Salinas, President of The Foundation’s Board of Trustees. “Her life’s mission is to share the facts about HPV and cervical cancer, as well as her personal story of triumph, with women young and old, so they might be spared what she has courageously survived. She has received multiple awards and honors, in addition to being named one of SHAPE Magazine’s “Women Who Shape the World”, as the result of her tireless work.
“I hope the Rio Grande Valley will be transformed by her appearance at the ‘Ladies First’ Luncheon,” continues Salinas, “Because HPV can be prevented and cervical cancer can be conquered.”
The 3rd Annual ‘Ladies First’ Luncheon to benefit The Foundation at Mission Regional Medical Center is open to all. Tickets are $75 each. Tables are available for groups of ten (10), with preferred seating offered to sponsors. Register online at www.thefoundationatmrmc.org, or call 956.323.1102 to learn more about this important educational event designed to empower ladies of all ages.
