(Mission, TX) The Foundation at Mission Regional Medical Center has been selected to receive a Community Assistance Fund grant from Junior League of McAllen. This grant, intended to develop and expand significant services to our community, will be used to purchase and install a digital Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) for use in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Mission Regional Medical Center (MRMC).
“Our mission at Junior League is to improve the lives of children throughout Hidalgo County,” explains Denise Garcia Thieme, president of the McAllen nonprofit organization. “The health and educational needs of every child are especially important. For this reason we are pleased to fund the PACS equipment for use by the physicians and staff who are working at Mission Regional Medical Center, to help our most fragile community members.”
“Premature birth, birth defects and disease do not discriminate,” states Marianna Treviño-Wright, director of The Foundation at MRMC. “These issues affect children from families with and without education, employment, insurance or resources—and we provide exceptional care to them all, right here, regardless. As your community-based, nonprofit hospital, Mission Regional Medical Center is committed to improving the health of local residents through on-going investments in technology, facilities, staff training and more. We are truly grateful for the support of Junior League of McAllen, and for their shared vision. This grant will positively impact the health of very sick babies by making comparative digital data immediately available to our neonatalogists and sub-specialists for the most efficient diagnosis and treatment of our ‘Little Miracles’.”
In addition to housing a twenty-bed, Level II & III, state-of-the-art Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Mission Regional Medical Center houses and operates the Rio Grande Valley’s only 24/7 dedicated Neonatal & Pediatric Transport Team. This team of specialized nurses and respiratory therapists provides critical care, in transport, to children throughout South Texas, whether they are being sent to Mission, or to a higher-level-of-care facility such as Texas Children’s or Shriner’s.
